SAP Joins Collective Action to Create a Cleaner Ocean by 2030 (01/21/20)
In the SAP + Qualtrics Global Study of Public Opinion, 'Toward a More Sustainable World', of the 10,501 people surveyed, they found that 78% of people believe that the government should do more to protect the environment even if it may harm businesses. They also found that people in North American and Western Europe are most concerned with the affect that plastics have on the Ocean. 30% of those surveyed from North America stated that this was their main concern among seven other options such as climate change or littering. Results like this are what drove SAP to get involved in this mission.
SAP updated Its Plastics Cloud to help companies in the industry make decisions based off of analytics on materials and environments. The platform allows businesses to stay up to date with policies and guidelines regarding global standards in the packaging industry and help them make decisions in changing materials and practices to create a better customer experience through sustainability. At the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland, SAP along with The Coca-Cola Company, The Ellen MacArthur Foundation and World Wildlife Fund discussed their collaboration in reducing the amount of plastic waste in the ocean.

SAP Joins CEO Carbon Neutral Challenge (01/22/20)
SAP also announced that they have joined the CEO Carbon Neutral Challenge issued by Gucci President and CEO Marco Bizzarri. The goal is to help businesses innovate new processes, help them engage with government and consumers, and overall lessen carbon emissions across the supply chain industry. The challenge brings CEOs to take accountability and action regarding the greenhouse gas emissions their companies emit.
SAP helps companies track their carbon emissions through analytics and logistics through their platforms. SAP uses innovation with IoT, AI and Machine Learning to implement these tailored solutions. SAP has already met their goal of reducing green gas emissions by 2020 and is currently working toward making their business carbon neutral by 2025.

They hope to be a positive influence to the rest of the technology industry and influence them to consider changing their company practices to support sustainability as well.
