SAP Introduces Low-code Workflow Offerings for Developers
At SAP TechEd yesterday, SAP announced the expansion of services and tools built specifically for developers. Low-code has become increasingly more popular, with SAP joining enterprises such as Salesforce, Google Cloud, and Slack in using low-code and/or no-code development.
During the SAP TechEd event, Juergen Mueller, CTO of SAP discussed the importance of developers in the business world, “This is the whole purpose of SAP Business Technology Platform. This is your time to shine by developing new applications, extending applications, creating new integrations quickly, helping your teams make confident decisions, and making it easier for your colleagues to work in your company."
With that, he introduced the expansion of the SAP Cloud Platform for developers.
One being an extension of low-code and no-code tools, appealing to developers of all skill levels. Using SAP and Qualtrics and the SAP Cloud Platform Workflow Management, developers are able to automate workflows in low-code scenarios with predefined templates. Using experience and operational data, users are given end-to-end visibility and simple configurations to improve internal operations with little coding experience.
The SAP Ruum solution, on the other hand, allows non-technical users with no coding experience to create processes and workloads tailored to each department of their organization quickly and efficiently. SAP Ruum empowers the productivity of users through the automation of data collection, streamlining collaboration, putting data all in one platform which simplifies the user experience. In SAP Ruum, users can create tailored workflows with customized work handoffs, reusable data fields, approval steps, flexible forms, and APIs. This solution is valuable to companies who want all of their employees, not just their IT department, to be able to build and integrate their own processes without messing with the organizations' security. Over 50 companies have joined the BETA version and have seen a major improvements.
The SAP Intelligent Robotic Process Automation (RPA) 2.0 has been created to help with software bot automation. With pre-built templates with SAP S/4HANA, users will be able to efficiently streamline business operations and workflows. SAP Intelligent RPA lowers TCO, by allowing users to access a cloud toolset, along with testing environments, and simple interactions. Robotic Process Automation can save Finance departments 25,000 of work annually, according to Gartner. It is planned that there will be a limited edition of this in SAP S/4HANA Cloud from January 2021 forward.
Also in 2021, SAP will offer a free tier model that will allow users to develop integrations and extensions all in one account for the SAP Cloud Platform. The trial offering has also been extended from three to 12 months.
In the future, it is possible that we will see even more innovative technologies built for developers. SAP announced it as a new focus of importance, and these are just the first steps to improving the entire foundation of the Intelligent Enterprise and SAP community.
